VAT Senior / Executive (Ref: J10535) Permanent

Goldhawk Associates are supporting a Top 20 firm of accountants based in Mid Kent who is looking to appoint a VAT Executive to their team. They are looking for someone with several years of experience in accounting preferably with a minimum of an AAT qualification. You will need to be up to date with accounting principles and be able to prepare statutory accounts with practical experience of VAT issues having worked within a tax environment in-house, with another accounting firm, or with the HMRC directly. The role would suit an organised individual with attention to detail, with the ability to work commercially in supporting clients and working to identify new business opportunities for the firm.

You will be involved in preparing complex VAT calculations using your accounting knowledge, to advise clients on their VAT liability, to provide VAT compliance services. Supporting the Assistant Manager, Partner, and regional Partners whilst being capable of mentoring and developing junior team members in areas such as technical development and training.

You will be responsible for:

• Preparing complex VAT calculations
• Raise awareness of VAT and promote good practice
• Research the client database and identify opportunities
• Liaise with partners/managers to ensure clients VAT issues are managed
• Provide training on VAT matters as required
• Managing retrospective VAT claims
• Delegating work and helping to train the other members of the VAT team
• Providing support to colleagues who are advising on mainstream VAT issues
• Providing clients with VAT advice and supporting them with queries
• Meeting with clients
• Working with internal stakeholders including tax staff, VAT team members, VAT champions, and the wider support team
• Liaising with the HMRC

You will be IT literate and be confident with MS Word & Excel as well as using the Tour Operators’ Margin Scheme (TOMS). This role will require some regional travel in Kent regularly of between one to two days per week, so your own transport and ability to travel is essential.
